The Bed Bug is a small, flat insect that is reddish brown in color and oval in appearance. These pests measure four to five millimeters in length when they have grown to maturity. Aside from the common myth, these bugs can be seen with the naked eye.

Their diet consists of human blood. Some different varieties of the species will feed on bats and chickens. Being nocturnal creatures, they come out of their hiding places at night to feed on their host. Targeting the host itself by detecting heat waves, they may climb walls, ceilings, or walk towards the individual to feed. After piercing the person’s skin with two, long feeding tubes, it injects an anesthetic and anticoagulants which are found in the saliva. This is what causes a reaction when the bite is later felt. After feeding for around five minutes, the bug then returns to its hiding place.

Most bites appear as red, raised bumps. These might even look as though they are welt that are flat in appearance. Because of this, most consider it a mosquito bite. These bumps can be found in different locations and are often seen in rows or clusters. They itch horribly and because of this, skin infections might occur.
