How to get rid of Bed Bugs

There are three reasons why you should not try to get rid of bed bugs through the use of insecticides.

  1. Insecticides are not an option to get rid of bed bugs, because insecticides should never be applied to an area where you sleep.
  2. There are  non toxic bed bug products on the market that are considered EPA 25(b) Exempt and are perfectly safe to use on your mattress and sleeping areas; infact your children can sleep in the room immediately after you spray it in the room.  The non toxic 25(b) Exempt safe bed bug products, are also considered highly effective and kills bed bugs.
  3. The third reason is that bed bugs have grown an immunity to the toxic pesticides currently on the market and commonly used by pesticide companies.  Most Exterminating Companies continue to use the same pesticides “that don’t work” because it’s all they have.

If you want to kill bed bugs, follow the steps below.

•Reduce clutter to make the bed bug inspection easier.
•Remove drawers from desks and dressers and inspect and clean all hiding spots.
•Personal items such as stuffed animals, soft toys, blankets should be removed from the room and stored in large garbage bags, cleaned with a vacuum cleaner, and bagged in plastic for for a couple of days sprinkled with diatomaceous earth if infestation is severe.
•Dismantle the bed frame and remove your mattress and box spring, you may expose additional bedbug hiding sites.
•Inspect the box spring and mattress. It is recommended to put your mattress and box spring in a zippered mattress encasement.
•Caulk and seal all holes where pipes and wires penetrate walls and floor, and fill cracks around baseboards and moldings.
•Wash your linen and bedding if possible in hot water. If washing is not available, sometimes heating the garments or bed linen for several minutes in a clothes dryer may work.
•Thoroughly clean the infested rooms with a good hospital grade disinfectant.  Scrub infested surfaces with a stiff brush to dislodge eggs.
•Vacuum in area of bed bug harborages with an vacuum attachment; then add diatomaceous earth along the base boards and rub it in the carpets.
•Spray baseboards and every area bed bugs are present with a bed bug spray.
•Caulk cracks and crevices in the building exterior and also repair or screen openings to exclude birds, bats, and rodents that can serve as alternate hosts for bed bugs.
