Just about anyone would rather confront bed bugs in the pages of a book of nursery rhymes, rather than in the comfortable environment that is home. Having to suffer through and bed bugs infestation can mean spending paying large sums of money and having to get rid of treasured items. Having blood sucking bed bugs invade your living space can truly change your perception of where you live. Learning how to kill bed bugs before they are allowed to settle in can save you a lot of cash, stress and heartache.

When you return home from a trip suspecting that you may have been exposed to bed bugs, drop all your belongings before you go through your front door. The bed bugs that slept with you on vacation might well be nesting in your suitcase or crawling through your clothes. Bringing bed bugs into your house and allowing bed bugs to get settled in can ultimately mean having to enlist the assistance of a professional.

What are Bed Bugs?

Bed bugs are tiny parasites that actually can be seen by the naked eye. Bed bugs are result and are prone to hiding in places where bed bugs cannot be easily spotted. The will however, die when exposed to sufficiently high temperatures. This means that you can prevent them from getting into your home without spending so much as a dime. These bed bugs can be heavy on the pocket, or treating the problem can be done for free. The free methods however, generally only work when used as a preventative measure against bed bugs infestation. Once their in, save yourself a headache and call for help.

Luggage, clothing and other items can be left in a closed car to swelter. This means having the car parked directly in the sun with all of the windows up. The temperature on the inside will rapidly rise due to the greenhouse effect. Leaving these items in the car for several or more hours should help eliminate any of the nasty little, unwanted travelers.

Bed Bugs Everywhere

Giving washable items a pass through the laundry can be helpful as well, but only if done properly. Excess soap, water or bleach will not by any means kill bed bugs. Only heat. Washing your clothes with hot water is fine, but not effective. Drying your clothes thoroughly and to the point where they are painfully hot to the touch will mean that any of the bed bugs that are present are dead.

Anything that can’t be washed or left to swelter in the car should be thoroughly vacuumed. This needs to be complete outside of the house. When done vacuuming remember to either empty the vacuum canister or change the vacuum bag. Leaving this undone opens another avenue for bed bugs entry. Through your vacuum bag into an outside trash.

It can be embarrassing to have a bed bugs infestation, not to mention a huge stress once they have made themselves at home. Remember this when using heat to kill off any that might have traveled home with you. If the dryer seems as though it has run long enough, let it set for fifteen or so more minutes. Leave the luggage and clothes in the hot car for as long as possible. The more precaution early on, the fewer the headaches later.

Humans have had to cope with bed bugs since their beginnings. It is not uncommon to have been exposed to bed bugs. By learning how to kill bed bugs before they enter your home, is the only way to avoid a full-blown infestation.

They are very small, only 5-7 mm long and with a flat body. They are a menace in places where there are many people, such as in hotels. People must learn more about these insects, as these can be potentially very harmful to human beings. Bed bug bites can cause mild to moderate allergic reactions like itching and hives.

The problem of bed bugs has existed for centuries. These parasites are known by many different names such as redcoat, heavy dragoon, and mahogany flat. The world thought that it had totally eradicated them in the last 50 years with the extensive use of pesticides but the bugs have recently come back in big numbers because of the increase in international travel. They are also tougher to kill because they can now resist the old pesticides.

The first signs of a bed bug infestation are actual bites from lying in bed. Some more warning signals are fecal and blood stains on the bed sheet, crushed bed bug corpses, and cast skin. Persons who think that they have a bed bug infestation should consult and employ an expert pest control service to thoroughly inspect the house and plan a way to eradicate the bugs.

When bugs are found to be present, a number of measures can be taken to eradicate the infestation. They can be physically removed through vacuuming. A high efficiency particulate air filtered vacuum should remove almost all bugs and their allergens.

They can also be removed by sticking tape onto them or brushing them into a container of alcohol. Excluding and then sealing off openings to their harbor sites also helps by keeping bugs isolated where they will eventually just die.

Applying extreme heat or cold on bugs is also effective because bugs die at extreme temperatures. Steam cleaners typically generate over 45 degree Celsius heat and this is enough to kill bugs that come into contact. A drawback of this method is that steam cleaners can only cover a small area. Mattresses also are hard to disinfect with this method because they tend to absorb the heat before it can get to the bugs. Commercial efforts are also underway to develop rapid freezing sprays.

Pesticides are far less effective than they were fifty years ago, when they nearly killed off the bed bug population at the time. Present bugs are nearly immune to those older pesticides. To kill off the bugs of today, a properly formulated residual chemical insecticide must be applied on all possible surfaces that bugs may crawl and reside in.

There are many other ways to deal with bed bug infestations. Since a multi-pronged approach is usually the best one to take, a pest control service really must be employed to determine the right mix of methods to be used. For prevention, individuals should look into buying or making a plastic cover for their mattresses.

Bed bugs are tiny insects that feed on both animal and human blood for nourishment. Because of their flat and tiny bodies, it makes them somewhat hard to spot with the naked eye. Despite their name, they can nest in other places aside from your bed. They can hide in places like cracks on the walls or floors, carpets, furniture, curtains, garments, etc.

Once you think that there may be some already in your home, worry not. As long as you handle the situation the right way, infestation may be prevented. Continue reading and find out how you can stop them right on their tracks.

Detection of Bed Bugs

The first step is to thoroughly examine pillows, bed sheets, clothing, carpet and other similar items. Check if there are any little fecal stains, blood spots or any other markings bed bugs may leave behind. Use a magnifying glass when checking cracks on walls or floors, as well as crevices on your furnishings. Bed bugs tend to stay close to each other. If you spot some, chances are the rest are nearby.
Place undiluted bleach in spray bottles, and spray areas where you suspect they’re hiding. You may also use pesticides especially formulated for these pesky critters. Use caulking to fill up gaps and cracks where they may nest. Take away from the floor anything that doesn’t belong there. Reducing clutter is a good way to minimize the places where bed bugs could hide, thus prevent their multiplication.

Vacuum bed sheets, comforters, pillow cases, carpets, curtains and others. Doing so will help in removing bed bugs and their eggs. Remove beddings and do the same thorough cleaning on the mattress and box-springs. Get rid of those insects and eggs on your furnishings and in other areas of the house by using a brush attachment on your vacuum. Once done, place the vacuum bag in a plastic bag, close it up and discard properly outside.

Use hot water when washing beddings, pillow cases, drapes, clothing items, etc. Extreme heat will kill present bed bugs. Place them in the dryer afterwards, using the highest setting. However, also consider which maximum heat setting is safe for different items, to keep from ruining them. Before storing them, spray with alcohol or bleach your closet, and let air dry. Doing so will get rid of any bug already residing there.

Keep your mattress and bed base from being infested with bed bugs. Remove any bedding or covering, and wrap them with protective plastic. This will keep these insects from nesting in them. Also, if some of them already made their way inside your mattress or bed base, plastic wrapping will trap the bugs. Since they won’t be able to feed in there, they’ll eventually die. You can apply the same method for protecting your garment or other items for storage. If your bed and other furnishings are old and heavily infested, simply replace them with new ones.

After you have returned from traveling, unpack your bags in the garage. This is because the hotel you have stayed in might have some level of infestation. Immediately seal your items in plastic bags, and later on wash them using hot water. Then transfer them to the dryer for at least 5 minutes to kill any bugs or eggs in your items.

When you think the infestation has gone too far, it’s best to ask for help from skilled exterminators. They know how to locate and kill off bed bugs. However, it may take a few sessions to completely eradicate them. Good cleaning and preventive steps are necessary to keep your house from having any more infestation in the future.

Many have become victims of bed bugs at some point or
another in life. Some people may not even know that their
bed has been taken over by these little critters. Before you
can take proper action it would be reasonable to first
identify the insect, look for the symptoms, ways to evade
this dilemma and most importantly how to dispose of this
displeasure.

The insects can be seen with the naked eye. They are
reddish brown and flat. They feed on the blood of humans at
night ; allowing them to become more mobile and move
quickly. These insects are known to live in the cracks and
crannies of where people sleep.

It isn’t complicated to find out whether or not you have
this issue. A clear cut sign would be severe itching at
night. A lot of times when a person has been bitten by this
bug a trail of reddish spots are often left on skin. These
marks on the body can appear red in color and are
noticeable. It’s also possible to see blood or fecal matter
on your bedding, mattress or linen. Constant movement such
as one rolling over throughout the course of the night can
cause the crushing of one of these insects. A mature adult
bed bug will bleed heavily when squashed because it holds
more blood. When a good quantity of anticoagulant is
injected into your system it causes the over flow of your
blood as well as the shedding of the bugs skin, known as
molting can also be found on your linen.

It’s unfortunate but these bugs can live completely
anywhere that is small with folds such as luggage,
furniture, hampers and many other places. Hotel rooms,
dorms, apartments and motels can harbor these insects. They
can be found in the folds of mattresses, couches and chairs.
When checking the possibly areas of infestation check for
mature bugs, bed bug husk and eggs.

Be certain to wash your linen in hot with lots of soap. By
changing your mattress you can decrease the result in be
bugs as well as purchasing a sealable cover or even
vacuuming your mattress.

Warm soap and water can help sooth bites. Other lotions,
ointments and sprays may also be applied like calamine
lotion.

If you are would like to take matters into you own hands
then there are natural remedies such as vacuuming, steam
cleaning and placing the mattress or bedding outside in hot
temperature or cold temperature can kill the bugs.

Search online for professionals who may be available to
come in and exterminate your home. Vikane and Boric Acid are
two of the many chemicals used in the professional world of
extermination to kill insects bed bugs.

No one has to put up with the discomfort and annoyance of
bed bugs. Look for the signs, keep areas where they are
known to habitat clean and decide what kind of remedy works
best for you whether it’s natural home remedies or
professional.

A lot of people work on the road and spend large portion of their time away from home. Bringing bed bugs home from somewhere else is the number one way people get a bed bug infestation. Finding a natural bed bug killer is the key to getting rid of bed bugs for good.

Lloyd S. wrote us about this very kind of problem.

Lloyd said, “I have bed bugs in a new small Motorhome that must have been used for demonstration and apparently picked up some bed bugs in the bed/sofa rear part of the vehicle….not the forward, driving section. I get a few bites ……but not in the forward part yet while I’m using the vehicle for transportation.

I also think that none have yet infested my house. I only got a few bites some days ago when I was sleeping in the motorhome bed. As soon as I discovered them in the motorhome I quit sleeping there and have no bites here in the house, or while driving the vehicle in front. So I’d like to eliminate the ones in the motorhome bed area now??”

Fortunately we were able to give Llyod the information and products he needed to eliminate bed bugs from his new mobile home before his primary residence became infested with bed bugs as well.

These insects are currently however, mounting a resurgence that is likely to have quite a few households at their wit’s end. Frequent travelers can implement a few preventative measures up on their many returns to make certain that these bugs do not enter their home. With a little prudence and a bit of bed bug spray, returning sleepers can rest assured.

Bed bugs are parasitic insects that live in or nearby sleeping areas of humans, birds and select mammal. The feed on the blood of these varied hosts and use the sleeping spice as quarters for breeding and feeding. Contrary to popular opinion however, these bugs do not necessarily need a messy house in order to set up camp. A full blown infestation can take place anywhere that there is a warm host, and room to reproduce.

Bed bugs are round, tiny and they are very, very good at hiding. You can however spot them with your eye and they also leave a tell tale sign of their presence. The mattresses that are inhabited by bed bugs usually have tiny black and brown dots on the cover. This is their fecal matter as these insects usually produce this not far from where they geed.

If you suspect that there are bed bugs present in your sleeping area you can check under the mattress and along the side of the mattress where the ridged stitch is. They also like to hide behind picture frames that are nearby or behind the bed, as well as behind the bed frame or within any furniture that is directly beside the bed such as nightstands and dressers.

Many times, several days or weeks after an away trip some people will find that they continually wake up with small, red, itchy bites on their bodies. They cannot fathom that bed bugs could be the problem, but the likely cause of the bites are stow away travelers that hitched a ride from the sleeping quarters used on the trip. This problem however, is easily avoided when the right precautions are taken.

Individuals that sleep often in hotel rooms, motel rooms, or other places besides home run a much higher risk of getting a bed bug infestation of their own. This can be prevented however, by simply treating your luggage after long trips before you bring it back into your living area. Doing this can be quite simple and requires very little time or money.

Once you get home and before you get inside, empty your suitcase into your car. Make sure that you have the car windows rolled up and that the car is parked in direct sunlight. The greenhouse effect will cause the interior temperatures of the car to increase in heat. If you leave your items inside the car for several hours you can rest assured that any bed bugs that have stowed away in your travel bags are dead.

Before bring you actual luggage inside vacuum it thoroughly and use the hose attachment to get into all of the hard to reach place. Spray the inside of your case to make sure that no bugs are hiding in between the cover and the lining and also vacuum and spray inside of all pockets and compartments, both interior and exterior to the luggage. When you are finished, make certain to empty you vacuum canister before bringing it back in as live bed bugs can travel into you home via this method as well. These extra measures will help you keep you home free of bed bugs.

Finding an effective bed bug spray is critical for your well-being. A bed bug killer must get the job done without endangering the health of humans or pets.

Specific species of bed bugs

There is actually several specific species of bed bugs that feed primarily on bats. The Cimex hemipterus infests poultry and bats while the Leptocimex boutei feeds on bats and humans. The cimex pilosellus and the cimex popostrella prefer to feed solely on bats if possible.

Bed bugs at home

Bats can make several entrances into your home. The most common way is through the fire place. They will nest their quite often, especially if you do not use the fire place often.
Bed bugs are those creepy little critters that pop out of nowhere one night, and pepper your body with itchy, stinging little bites. In fact, until someone experiences an attack, most people think the pests are just a made-up fictional bug in that nursery rhyme that children sing. But that’s not the case, as the bugs have been around forever, and are usually closer in range to you, than you might think.

Your home can be infested at any time – by visitors who stop by, and happen to be carrying a few around they don’t know about, or if you’ve moved into an apartment where they crawl out from the walls. You can clean and spray all you like, but know they’re especially hard to get rid of once they’ve infested your bed.

This is where investing in a good strong mattress cover is a wise idea, as it may insure the pests stay out of your bedding. What exactly is a cover, and what does it do? Here is some basic information on the types that are available:

An adequate, pest-proof mattress cover is an item of either vinyl or fabric, which goes over the actual mattress to protect it. They can come with, or without zippers – and can even be purchased already treated with insecticides, for those who don’t mind it being done for them.

This kind of mattress cover is one made of cloth or vinyl, that fits over your regular mattress with the purpose of keeping the bed bugs out. You can choose from ones that zipper all the way around the mattress, or just fit over it with elastic, like bed sheets do. Once it’s over the bed, it smothers the bugs that are already inside your mattress by keeping them from getting out, and prevents new ones from jumping in and reproducing.

Vinyl mattress covers are cheaper, and more stain resistant, but tear more easily. They also aren’t very comfortable to sleep on, and may smell weird. While it’s true that those made of fabric will cost you more money, and are less stain resistant, they may prove to be more effective in taking care of the problem in the long run, due to their durability.

No matter which road you choose in purchasing your bed bug mattress cover, make sure your items and belongings are cleansed and treated thoroughly, to make sure that the pests and their offspring are taken care of. By paying special attention to your bedding, you will have many peaceful, bug-free nights ahead of you.
