Bed bugs do have to feed in order to complete their molting cycles to become an adult bed bug. They can not lay eggs until they are in the adult bed bug stage.

At this time, they deposit one or two eggs per day. When bed bug babies hatch they are pretty much translucent until they feed for the first time.
