What does a bed bug look like?

Adult bed bugs are straw-colored to reddish brown, wingless insects. Prior to feeding, they are approximately 1/4″ to 3/8″ long and nearly as flat as a piece of paper. Once they feed they become bloated and dark red.

They also have microscopic hairs that can give them a banded appearance. Female bed bugs have a flat round body while the male bed bugs are long and thin.
